Few benefits from meditation practice

Our mind has been conditioned by various factors since we were little children. Our society and family holds us to certain standards that we may not be able to comfortably meet. We often hold ourselves to impossibly difficult levels of attainment and then feel like failures when we do not succeed. In fact, we have conditioned our mind all of our life. Meditation allows us to de-condition the mind from its usual pattern and to reform it to something healthier.

It also causes us to develop mindfulness, which keeps us in the present moment and makes us better at anything we do. It also frees us from unnecessary mental anguish because much of our suffering is based on things that have occurred in the past or on things that we think might happen in the future. Eventually, Dharma practice, when combined with study and wholesome actions that bring benefit to all beings will lead you to higher stages of spiritual development.
